Folgers

The infamous Folgers coffee commercials date back to the 1980s and are best known for their famed slogan, “the best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup.” This commercial from the 90s uses the appealing phrase along with a catchy song to draw its readers in. Folgers company tries to appeal to consumers’ pathos when they show the woman peacefully waking up to a hot cup of coffee. Folgers makes use of language with the upbeat, likable melody and rhythm of the song that makes this commercial memorable. The lyrics of the song also rhyme further creating a feeling of joy while to consumer watches. With use of the song Folgers is able to subtly fit in their logic that Folgers coffee is the best and only choice for bright and early mornings. The consumer is meant to feel if they drink this coffee they will be as energized as the dancers in the commercial. The advertisement also flashes rapidly between images of a woman dancing and drinking coffee which captivates the watchers attention. The commercial starts out in the morning with the setting rather dark and the tempo of the song is slow. As the commercial goes on the tempo rises and the setting gets progressively brighter. This growth in light symbolizes the effects the coffee will have on its consumers. The more they drink the more energy they will have to participate in the everyday activities of life. All of these subliminal messages communicate the idea that Folgers coffee brings joy and vigor to its consumers lives.

I like the extended metaphor of an energetic dance based upon the medicinal qualities of coffee. Just go into more depth.
